Founded in 1899, Teller County was carved from the western slope of Pikes Peak, and was named after United States Senator Henry M. Teller. It contains 557 square miles of land and 2 square miles of water; and the county seat is the bustling little town of Cripple Creek.
The county begins 20 miles West of Colorado Springs and can be accessed via State Highway 24 West and CO State Highway 67 North. It is almost directly in the center of the State of Colorado with elevations ranging from 8,000 feet in Woodland Park to over 14,000 on the back side of Pikes Peak. Over 50% of Teller County is public land, with Pike National Forest covering a large area on the eastern side of Teller County.
Teller County provides a great home base location for all of your Colorado adventures. Because of its unique location (on the famous Pikes Peak mountain range!), it boasts a plethora of outdoor activities that are just out your backdoor; some of Colorado’s top rated ski resorts are only a couple of hours away.
In the center of the county you’ll find Mueller State Park, which also offers an abundance of outdoor activities. Camping is available year round, and there are trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park also offers 800+ acres of public hunting land and various educational programs.

Spanning 559 square miles, the total population of Teller County is just under 25,000 people and comprises three main cities: Cripple Creek, Woodland Park and Victor. It also includes Divide, Florissant, Goldfield, and Midland.
